YorubaFest 2023 Ilu dundun
YORUBAFEST 2023 YORUBA VIDEO PROMO
The annual YORUBAFEST is not your typical Dallas festival in the Fall – think State Fair or the Red River Rivalry on a sunny Dallas Saturday in October. YorubaFest is a unique indoor and outdoor festival that celebrates the music, arts, culture and traditions of the great Yoruba people of West Africa. Apart from their unique “egungun” masked dancers and “dundun” talking drums, the Yoruba people are renowned for their fine art (masks, sculptures and beaded mosaics) and clothing (adire, ankara and aso oke.) They are aso famous for the energy they put into exquisite performances in drum, dance and theater (including their beloved Nollywood movies.) Added to this is the strong presence of the Dallas African American community, many of whom have adopted Yoruba cultural motifs in dress, music and adherence to the Yoruba Ifa tradition. The YorubaFest is the vehicle that brings this joyous combination to the world in an open air festival in Dallas Texas in October. Guests and performers come from all over the world, not just the Dallas area. In a scene that mixes Old World pageantry with exotic African costumes, drumming and dancing, guests and visitors to the festival are entertained by the antics of Egungun “Koluso,” while mingling with obas, chieftains and dignitaries from Yorubaland, including perhaps the Ooni of Ife himself. For this ultimate custodian of the ancient Yoruba cultural legacy is the Grand Patron of the YorubaFest.
